Experts are available throughout Austria to support you in radon protection. This includes us, the Radon Competence Centre, as well as experts for radon mitigation and the contact persons in the federal provinces.
Experts for structural radon protection
The Radon Competence Centre has been training experts for structural radon protection on behalf of the BMK since 2019. The experts provide advice on questions concerning radon in buildings. They also plan and carry out radon remediation of existing buildings as well as radon protection measures for new buildings.

In Austria, building regulations fall under the jurisdiction of the federal states. Building laws and building regulations therefore apply to the territory of each federal state.

Authorized monitoring services with regard to radon
In §§ 84 and 100 StrSchG 2020, BGBl. I No. 50/2020, the Radiation Protection Act prescribes the determination of the radon concentration at the workplace as well as the estimation and determination of the dose for the workers employed at the workplace. These determinations and estimations are to be carried out by "authorized monitoring services". The required authorization according to § 131 StrSchG 2020 is granted by the Federal Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology upon application. Determinations of radon concentrations in occupied rooms of residential buildings are to be carried out voluntarily; they are not mandatory. However, if a determination of the radon concentration is carried out to prove compliance with the reference value, it must be performed by an authorized monitoring body (compare § 131 StrSchG 2020 in conjunction with § 5 RnV). This ensures that standardized procedures are applied and thus creates legal certainty. Here you will find a list of the bodies that are authorized for the area of activity listed in the heading.
